An analysis is the authoring environment — editable, where you build and arrange visuals.

A dashboard is a published, read-only snapshot of an analysis shared with consumers.

Crucially, editing the analysis does not change the dashboard until you publish again. Consumers reporting stale figures after a change is almost always an unpublished analysis rather than a data problem.
